The Philip DeFranco Show: Podcast Review

November 29, 2019

Philip DeFranco has been touted as the Walter Cronkite for the millennial generation and for good reason.  Right from the beginning with his long running tagline “Sup you beautiful bastards?”, DeFranco pulls listeners in with his unique voice and edited style which enables his show to discuss plenty of topics in short, 10 to 20 minute podcasts.  If you are like me, and your daily commute is too short for the typical 1 hour podcasts then this show is perfect for you.  DeFranco covers everything from politics, pop culture, sports, technology, entertainment, religion and plenty of random stories that would not be found in traditional news sources.  Recent topics include the Donald Trump – Joe Biden Ukraine situation, Greta Thunberg being mocked, tense US-Cuba relations, ESports, college athlete compensation and a story of a 6 year old being arrested.

One criticism of the Philip DeFranco Show is the jump cuts he uses in editing to go quickly between topics.  Though it keeps his episodes short in length, it can be tricky to keep up with at times, especially if you are listening to podcasts as a distraction from something else, and not necessarily giving your full attention.  DeFranco claims to be totally unbiased, and while he does provide both sides of the argument, his opinions do tend to be left-leaning.

Nevertheless, if you find yourself out of date on water cooler topics and pressed for time, then I would highly recommend spending a few minutes of your day tuning into this show to find out what’s going on in the world.
