Invisibilia is a podcast about the invisible forces that shape our lives - things like emotions and thoughts. They explore how these invisible forces impact us through fascinating true stories.
So many podcasts tackle tangible things - crime, murder, politics, today’s news. Invisibilia does the opposite - it tries to shine a light on the invisible forces that shape our everyday life - the things that implicit in our being, like thoughts, empathy, happiness, sadness, or hatred.
Each episode delves into one of these intangibles, using fascinating stories from real people to illustrate how at the end of the day, we’re all susceptible to the things we can’t see. My favourite episode of this show - and my favourite podcast episode EVER - is The Secret History of Thoughts. It deals with the power of our thoughts - what do they mean? Do they control us? Are we in control of them? - through two extremely powerful stories. I’ve listened to that episode over and over, and still can’t get over how compelling it is.
Season one of Invisibilia is my favourite, but it’s all worth listening to, especially if you’re interested in psychology.
