Calm After the Storm: Podcast Review

September 30, 2020

Calm After the Storm is a podcast hosted by survivor Amy Syed. Amy has survived domestic violence, terminal cancer and more and has managed to come out on the other side. She uses the podcast to provide a platform for other survivors to tell the audience what happened to them and share similar stories of strength and survivorship.

I love the podcast because even though Amy is a survivor herself-- or maybe because she is a survivor herself-- she understands the importance of giving her guests the space to tell their stories. The podcast humanizes things like domestic violence, human trafficking and sexual abuse. It introduces you to the names and faces of the people who have suffered these hardships and allows listeners to understand them as individuals, not just as numbers or unnamed trauma. It allows listeners to understand these things in ways they may not have before. And most of all, it shares amazing stories of resilience, strength and triumph through times when these things seemed impossible. It gives listeners hope that even if you have reached rock bottom, there is always hope and you can always get better and come out on the other side.
