Building a StoryBrand with Donald Miller: Podcast Review

November 11, 2019

I find Building a StoryBrand with Donald Miller to be a little uneven, but there are some great episodes. It’s a weekly podcast with no season breaks, and the volume of content dilutes the quality a bit. It would be better served by introducing seasons and producing less but better content.

Knowing this, I do not download every episode and only listen to the ones I am most interested in. Some of my favourite episodes include author Nancy Duarte on creating visual presentations and FBI hostage negotiator Chris Voss sharing some of his negotiation principles. Voss’ book “Never Split the Difference: Negotiating as if your Life Depended on it” was a game-changer for me. Throw the “Harvard Negotiation Project” out the window - Voss out-negotiated them and is now a professor there.

The episodes could also be cut to under 30 minutes by losing the dragging intro to each episode by the host and his sidekick, who seem nice but add nothing to the content.

Final verdict for Building a StoryBrand with Donald Miller: it’s a good listen, but be selective with what you download and skip the host intros.
